University of Medan Area Biology Faculty with PT. Nusantara Siana Eko Solusi (NSES) held a waste processing event into compost on Friday 5 May 2019 at the Compost Home of the Faculty of Biology UMA.
The event was a form of realization of cooperation between the Biology Faculty of UMA and PT. NSES which has established cooperation in March. The practice of composting is delivered directly by Mr. Muhammad Yani bin Abu Samah from Singapore and assisted by PT.NSES staff and UMA Faculty of Biology students.
The purpose of the event is to process organic waste such as sewage sludge, food scraps, vegetable waste, shrimp waste, sawdust, water hyacinth, palm shells and others using Bioactivator materials. The bioactivator functions to speed up composting, eliminating the very pungent odor of garbage by spraying bioactivator material into the sharp-smelling garbage.
"In addition, the main goal of future waste management is to process Medan municipal waste, so that Medan is not included in the list of the most dirty cities in Indonesia by using simple but environmentally friendly technology and its benefits for students are as research material," said the UMA Faculty of Biology Dean Dr. Mufti Sudibyo, M.Sc. Mr. Muhammad Yani added that the technology used is non-flammable, very safe to use and the price is not too expensive and the technology can be a solution for household waste management.
