The Asean University of Medan Area (UMA) Center held a public lecture with the theme "Political and Security Challenges in the ASEAN Region" on Friday, October 25, 2019 at the Convention Hall of the UMA Campus Library Building.
As for who attended the event, the Medan Area University Chancellor Prof. Dr. Dadan Ramdan M.Eng, M.Sc, Deputy Chancellor, Near UMA Law Dr. Rizkan Zulyadi, SH, M.H, Lecturer and Student of the Medan Area University environment, while the resource person who was present was Deputy of the Coordinating Minister for Legal Affairs and Foreign Affairs Dr. (HC) Lutfi Rauf MA and students from other universities who attended were one of IAIN and UIN.
The chancellor's speech and opening of the lecture said that now the challenges of regional security are so extraordinary for millennials, we must have social media literacy and not be hasty in spreading information in the social media, "he said.
Chair of the ASEAN Study Center Dr. Faisal Amri Tanjung SST MT said, the institution he led was formed to encourage understanding and participation of academics and students towards ASEAN.
The UMA ASEAN Study Center, he said, has carried out its functions and duties as a scientific study institute implementing various joint programs or joint committees, such as in the International Seminar on ICoPOID 2019 (International Conference of Politics of Development) collaboration between UMA, USU and USM Malaysia.
In the future the UMA ASEAN Study Center will carry out a number of research and service programs aimed at exploring and assessing the potential of local resources, such as the study of the potential of the Malacca Strait geographically and geopolitically in the ASEAN political security area, "said the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.
Furthermore Deputy Menko Polhukam Foreign Affairs Dr. (HC) Lutfi Rauf MA said political stability in various regions is still ongoing, including the occurrence of proxy war, now there is no need to use missiles to wage war, but through gadgets. That is the importance of national resilience for plural society like Indonesia, "he explained.
