University of Medan Area (UMA) together with 11 other private tertiary institutions (PTS) in North Sumatra made a joint visit under the coordination of the Head of the Higher Education Service Institution (LLDikti) in Region I of North Sumatra Prof. Dr. Dian Armanto from 24-31 August 2019 in several universities in India.
During the visit UMA collaborated with a number of universities in the country, namely Lovely Professional University (LPU) Punjab, and Amritsar College of Engineering & Technology (ACET) in Amritsar City in the North, India and Sharda University.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was carried out by the UMA Rector Prof. Dr. Dadan Ramdan M.Eng, M.Sc was represented by the Vice Chancellor for Collaboration Dr. Ir. Zulheri Noer MP with the Indian LPU represented by University Registrar Dr. Monica Gulati on the Punjab LPU Campus, India.
Also witnessing the signing, LPU Founder Ashok Mittal, Head of LLDikti Region I Prof. Dian Armanto and Promoter of India-Indonesia Cooperation, Ravi Makhija. While the text of understanding of cooperation with ACET was signed by Dr. VK Banga.
The cooperation we have established with several universities in India is for the strengthening of UMA institutions, "said Mr. Zulheri Noer.
Mr. Zulheri said that UMA was interested in collaborating with Lovely Professional University (LPU) Punjab because the quality of the 18-year-old college was really good and the tuition fees were not expensive. LPU which is a private university in India takes care of 25,000 students including 3,000 foreign students from several countries. While ACET is one of the best engineering colleges in northern India.
In the memorandum of cooperation, the LPU opened the opportunity for UMA students to study through short courses or credit transfers. UMA also expressed readiness to conduct student exchanges. UMA students who will study at the LPU will be selected to meet the required criteria, such as GPA and English language skills.
He revealed, specifically this program was offered to students of the UMA Faculty of Engineering, Agriculture and Economics. In addition to student exchange cooperation, UMA and universities in India also hold lecturer exchanges, joint research, seminars and journals. "We will also create a consortium for private universities that are collaborating to implement the MoU," he said.
