UMA; To improve the quality of academic activities and increase insight and ability in carrying out research and community service in the Medan Area University environment, of course, there is a need for socialization and also training for lecturers, especially for new lecturers at the Medan Area University.
Monday, 29 March 2021, Medan Area University together with the Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M) held a Tri Dharma College Socialization for Young Lecturers at Medan Area University at the Medan Area University Convention Hall, Rectorate Building Lt. III.
This activity was attended by the Rector of the University of Medan Area, Prof. Dr. Dadan Ramdan, M.Eng, M.Sc, Vice-Rector I for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ir. Siti Mardiana, M.Si, Vice-Rector IV for Cooperation, Dr. Ir. Zulheri Noer, MP, and also the Head of LP2M, Dr. Ir. Sumihar Hutapea, MS along with the Head of the Research Center, Ahmad Rafiki, BBA, MM, Ph.D., and Head of the Community Service Center, Ir. Asmah Indrawaty, MP.
The Chancellor of UMA opened the activity by delivering this event to foster young lecturers in academic activities both in the teaching and learning process, how to manage ranks, and also how to do research and write in journals. The Chancellor expressed his appreciation for the enthusiasm of the young lecturers at the University of Medan Area who could give a new face to academic activities in the UMA environment. Prof. Dadan also said that lecturers must have a choice between writing and teaching because the Head of the Haji Foundation Agus Salim emphasized that lecturers must have a commitment whether they want to write or teach.
Finally, the Chancellor hopes that young lecturers will become the chosen lecturers as well as favorite lecturers in research or service activities and can feel at home at the University of Medan Area.
Dr. Ir. Zulheri Noer, MP in his speech conveyed a brief history of Medan Area University and how to build UMA in the future. He explained that the task of a lecturer is not only to teach but also to be able to research because to fill the accreditation one of which is research and journal articles. He also emphasized that if a lecturer does not want to research, then they should not become a lecturer, there are many grants and schemes that can be taken as well as rewards for every publication in both national and international journals.
Then the remarks were given by the Vice-Rector I for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ir. Siti Mardiana, M.Si said that the young lecturers at the University of Medan Area are still very fresh and enthusiastic. In his remarks, he also gave short material about Achievement and Improvement of UMA Academic Quality.
Dr. Ir. Sumihar Hutapea, MS as the Head of LP2M UMA gave an explanation regarding the mandatory duties of being a lecturer where lecturers must be able to fulfill the Tri Dharma of Higher Education not only teaching and teaching but also having to be able to carry out research and also community service. He also gave a brief history of LP2M and its organizational structure where each head has a function and duty in providing services to lecturers in the implementation of research and service as well as outputs, both articles, books, and KI.
Then the activity continued with material delivered by Ahmad Rafiki, BBA, MM, Ph.D. In the material, he explained the types of research, research schemes, research work programs, how to write proposals, as well as the objectives and expected results.
Ir. Asmah Indrawaty, MP also explained how to carry out service activities, target audiences, types of community service and target partners as well as outcomes and ended with a form of service templates.
The event took place from 13.30 - 16.00 WIB and the activity ended with a question and answer session and group photos.
It is hoped that this activity can give a new face in the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education and can provide benefits for new lecturers at the University of Medan Area.
