Agricultural students made brilliant achievements again in the prestigious National "Arrow Red Innovation Award 2020" and won second place held by PT. East-West Seed Indonesia from July 2020 to December 3, 2020, with the theme "Innovation on Your Limited Land". The assessment team is experts in their respective fields, including Prof. Dr. Hadi Susilo Arifin (IPB Professor in Landscape Ecology), Mrs. Ida Amal (Principal of the Academy of Gardening, Founder of Indonesia Gardening), Dr. Agung Karuniawan (UNPAD Faculty of Agriculture Lecturer), Dr. Ramadhani Eka Putra (SITH ITB Lecturer) and Joko Sareh Utomo (BoD PT. East-West Seed Indonesia).
The team is chaired by Agung Jabar Nur, 2016 Faculty of Agriculture Student with the assistance of Fachru Yuzairi U.S, Student of the Faculty of Agriculture, Class 2016 as a member and guided by Mrs. Fastabiqul Khairad, S.P., M.Sc., Lecturer of the Faculty of Agriculture. "Innovation in Utilization of Verticulture Hydroponic Technology in Unused House Rooms" was quoted as the title of the work at the event.
This competition was also enlivened by various well-known universities in Indonesia, including the Sepuluh November Institute of Technology, Gadjah Mada University, Bogor Agricultural University, Andalas University, North Sumatra University, and other well-known State Universities. ITS came out as the first winner, followed by a team from the Faculty of Agriculture, Medan Area University as the second winner, and Lampung State Polytechnic as the third winner.
This competition was held in order to encourage increased vegetable production in limited land by involving creative young people to become a driver of change in agricultural development in Indonesia. The competition was held in 4 stages starting from the initial selection, namely administrative selection related to innovative ideas. Followed by the 1st stage assessment bypassing 20 participants from various campuses in Indonesia. Participants who pass the stage 1 assessment then carry out the realization of the activity idea which is reviewed directly or virtually by the committee. 5 Finalists are required to present their innovations to the panelists on December 3, 2020.
This achievement is expected to make the Faculty of Agriculture, the University of Medan Area proud and be able to attract and increase student talent interest in increasing their potential to be able to compete in national and international scale events.
